A communicable disease is any disease that is spread through direct contact with an infected individual, or indirectly through a vector.  The spread of communicable diseases can be reduced dramatically by taking the proper precautions and adhering to some important guidelines.  The pages in this section are intended to provide parents of school age children with some information regarding common childhood communicable diseases, as well as inform parents of ways to prevent and manage the spread of such diseases.  This page is for informational use and is not intended to treat or diagnose any condition or illness.

Below is a chart wich will provide some basic information on how to recognize that your child may have contracted a communicable disease and should be seen by a physician for further diagnosis and treatment.  This chart also details how long a student must remain home from school and when he/she is permitted to return.
